I’m Thankful for my Fellowship with Christ

1 John 1:6-10

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

On this Thanksgiving weekend we clearly have much to be thankful for.  These verses point us to the certain understanding that we:

  • Are United by Faith in Christ
  • Are in complete fellowship with Christ
  • Are made one with Him

What this means to you and I is that His interest and our interests are mutual and identical.  We love what He love.  He loves the saints, so we love the saints.  He loves sinners, so we love sinners.  He loves the poor, so we love the poor.

What a powerful thought this Thanksgiving weekend as we reflect on the many blessings we have.    Perhaps you spent the holiday with your family, laughing, eating and just hanging together.  Of course, many are separated from their family, most notably those who are serving our country in the military to keep us free.  Perhaps this year I’ve become more aware of the special days of Thanksgiving because of our separation from those we love.

We have fellowship with our family when we are with them.  Since Christ lives in us we have fellowship with Him constantly.  As His desires become our desires we desire to drive out sin as does He.  He desires that His Father’s name be loved and glorified.  We must always hold the name of God in a place of Honor.  1 Corinthians 10:31. He is Jehovah, Elohim, El Shaddai, El Elyon, El Olam, Yahweh, Adonai, Theos, Kurios, Despotes, and finally Father.

In our desire for greater fellowship with Him we’ve got to join in labor for Him, ministering to man and women by the Word of Trust, and by deeds of love.  As we move into the Christmas season, our focus must be to identify ways in which the Love of Christ is manifested in our interactions with others and in our daily actions.

Finally, we have fellowship in the very joy in Christ.  His Joys; His Happiness; His exaltation.  Nothing can be more fulfilling that to see the joy of Christ manifested in us, that our joy may be full!

Walk not just with Him, but also Walk in Him.

Be Blessed.
