Have you ever been thirsty? I mean really thirsty?

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

                                             Psalms 42:1-2

Have you ever been thirsty?  I mean really thirsty?

Faith and I are on a big diet.  We are both in the 6th week (maybe the 7th).  We’ve had a good degree of success with it.

One of the things that is happening as I change what I eat and drink more water than any normal human should consume is that I’m often thirsty.  When first started the diet I kept asking myself, “How could I be this thirsty and still be drinking 10 to 14 8 oz. of water daily?”  I figured I’d feel bloated, but no way.  (That’s good.)

So this morning, I read these verses quoted above during my quiet time, they brought me to a major focus.  “As a deer pants for streams of water…”

I often find myself saying, “I gotta get me some water.”

I’m wanting the water, not a just a passing fancy.

I’m wanting it, not because someone said I should.

I’m wanting the water because I need it to sustain my very existence.

Sure, I can put it off.

But, just for a while.

What I can’t do is “do without.”

I can’t ignore my need; it absolutely must be satisfied.

As I read these verses, God asked me to ask myself, “Do you really desire Me in the same way that you desire water?”

Do you “gotta have [HIM]?”

I really love God.

Do I “desire” him in the same way I desire water?

I posit this question for me  .   .   .  and for you.

How is my desire for God manifested in my life?

Is my desire for God reflected in my daily living?

In my conversations?

In my interests?

In my zeal?

These verses have forced me to look in a big mirror.

That mirror is the very Word of God.  It is a light into my soul.

Kind of makes you think doesn’t it.

It did me.

Be Blessed.
